Michael L UmphreyMichael Umphrey is the author of three books, most recently Community Centered Education: Teaching as a Craft of Place (Rowman & Littlefield). He has presented workshops on place-based and community-centered teaching throughout the nation. His writing on education has been published in many national and state periodicals. He was founding director of the Heritage Project, an educational initiative focused on community-centered edcation, adminstereed by the Library of Congress and the Liz Claiborne and Art Ortenberg Foundation. He writes, teaches and gardens on the Flathead Indian Reservation in western Montana.
